tried the cookie cutter on several different types of sugar cookie dough (homemade and store bought) but cannot get the cookies to really look like the moose shape. the shapes of the legs and the horns are too intricate and thin so that when the cookie bakes up, it becomes more of a chubby looking pony then a moose.

I have made several batches of moose cookies with this cookie cutter. Sometimes, when I roll the dough too thin, the legs do fall off. But, if I roll out the dough to 1/4 to 1/8 inch thick, I get very moose like cookies. The antlers on this one are actually better than the antlers on my other moose cookie cutters--they are more solidly attached to the head. This is the way to go for moose cookies.
